Science Expedition

Youth will spend the day at UW-Madison exploring real-world science through hands-on experiences! This is a fantastic opportunity to explore campus life, meet real scientists, and ignite a passion for STEM careers!

When: Wednesday, November 5th

Where: UW Madison Campus, Pick-up and drop-off at the Washington County Fair Park

Who: Youth in grades 6 – 13 from Ozaukee, Fond du Lac, and Washington Counties

Cost: $10 per youth

What’s in Store for the Day?

What are some of the Experiences?

  • Culture stem cells and explore directed differentiation at the Morgridge Institute of Research
  • Dive into enzymes and cheese making at the UW Biotechnology Center
  • Discover solar energy in a real chemistry lab
  • Other sessions like:
    • Climate change and biofuels at the Wisconsin Energy Institute
    • Severe weather simulations at “Toying with Tornados”
    • Physics fun at the UW Physics Museum

Is there a Cost?

Cost is $10 per youth. This fee goes towards minimal fees for some of the hands-on activities.

  • Ozaukee youth: Payment can be cash or check. Checks should be made out to ‘Ozaukee County’ and can be dropped off or mailed to the Extension office.
    • Washington & Fond du Lac youth: please contact your county office for payment information.

Is Transportation Provided?

Yes! Transportation is provided for registered youth and adult chaperones.

Centrally located pick-up & drop-off location options are part of the registration process.

Is Lunch Provided?

Youth will bring a packed sack lunch of their own. Please know that this is a full day experience and youth will need to bring their own sack lunch for the day.

  • Ice cream afternoon snack provided!

What to Bring?

  • Please pack a lunch for your child (a snack will be provided during the day)
  • Closed-toe shoes and long pants required.
  • Dress for the weather
  • Curious minds
