Wisconsin’s landscapes are as diverse as its communities. From rolling farmland and vibrant small towns to bustling urban centers and pristine natural areas, this diversity makes land use planning essential for shaping a future that balances growth with conservation.
Effective planning helps local governments and communities make informed decisions about where and how development occurs. It ensures that residential neighborhoods, commercial hubs, industrial sites, and agricultural lands coexist without conflict. Just as importantly, planning helps ensure that critical infrastructure, like roads, utilities, schools, and emergency services, can support both current needs and future growth.
To empower local leaders, the Center for Land Use Education at UW–Stevens Point offers training and resources on these vital issues. Their Fall Planning and Zoning Webinar Series is designed for both new and experienced officials, providing practical guidance on roles, responsibilities, tools, and decision-making strategies.
