2025 Wisconsin 4-H Key Award Recipients

Rebecca Gierach

Rebecca Gierach is a 12-year member of the Lindenwood 4-H Club and a third-generation 4-Her. Rebecca lives the 4-H motto every day. She’s held multiple club offices and stepped aside at times so others could lead—always putting the good of the group first. She’s a Youth Leader in multiple projects, including Dogs, Crocheting, and Wood burning, and she took charge of “Meet the 4-H Animals” at the county fair, bringing it back after a pandemic pause. Her energy and planning were also on full display as an Adventure Camp counselor and Youth Director. Rebecca is thoughtful, organized, and always willing to take on a challenge, whether she’s modeling handmade clothing or coaching younger members with patience and care. As Miss Ozaukee 4-H, she continues to be a powerful ambassador for our program.

Outside of 4-H, Rebecca just completed her 12th grade year at Rolling Meadow Lutheran High School. While in high school, she was a church choir member, theatre actress, and helped serve at her church picnic and fundraising auction. Rebecca has been working on her dog training certificate this summer and will head to Concordia University this fall to study psychology and earn a compassionate care certificate, specifically for the comfort dog program.
It is clear that Rebecca has blossomed through her active involvement in the Ozaukee County 4-H program. Congratulations!

A message from Rebecca: Thank you for selecting me for the 4-H Key Award. It is an honor to be recognized for my involvement in 4-H. Time has gone by quickly and I will cherish the memories. The dedication of many leaders has given me many opportunities to explore. I want to thank Mrs. Boehlke, Mrs. Brzezinski, the Hellers, and the Kringles for hours of leadership, being there for me at club, county, camp and beyond. Many more leaders were instrumental in making me a well-rounded individual, offering me so many experiences I couldn’t have imagined growing up without them. Thank you also to the leaders board, 4-H Foundation and our extension agents who work hard to make this program have a positive impact on the youth of Ozaukee County. Finally, I want to thank my parents and family for their support and taking this 4-H journey with me.

Alaina Jarmuz

Alaina Jarmuz is a ten-year 4-H member who is a part of the Cloverleaf 4-H Club.
Alaina’s 4-H journey began in the Exploring project and grew to include Horse, Clothing, Photography, Scrapbooking, and Art. She’s a decorated equestrian, but it’s her leadership and willingness to support others that truly stand out. Whether she’s mentoring younger members, leading club meetings as President, or lending a hand at the Clover Café, Alaina brings maturity, dependability, and a spirit of service. From sewing creative outfits for the Clothing Revue to bringing history to life on the American Spirit Trip, Alaina has embraced 4-H with purpose and pride.

Outside of 4-H, Alaina just completed her 12th grade year at Grafton High School. While in high school, she was actively involved on the gymnastics team and even represented her school at the state level. Alaina will attend the University of St. Thomas and plans on studying nursing.
It is evident that Alaina has grown tremendously as a youth in the Ozaukee County 4-H program and has done a wonderful job showcasing her love for 4-H. Congratulations!

A message from Alaina: I am deeply honored to receive the Key Award today. After nine years in 4-H, achieving its highest honor is truly a blessing. However, I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities 4-H has provided me over the years.  Reflecting on my time with the Cloverleaf club, I remember starting as a shy and somewhat hesitant member. It’s funny to think back to those early days when I was just a first year member. Over time, I grew more confident and eager to take on new challenges and try new things. As I was involved in the horse project, it taught me how to care for someone other than myself. Being a Youth Leader has truly showed me how important it is to me to give back to others to help build experiences for them like I had. From serving as treasurer, where I learned the importance of managing finances and keeping accurate records, to vice president, where I began learning my organizational and teamwork skills, each role prepared me for the ultimate opportunity as serving as president. Leading the Cloverleaf Club was an incredible experience. It taught me the importance of collaboration, communication, and the ability to inspire others. I learned how to run effective meetings, plan engaging activities, and make an incredible experience for the other members that I was so grateful to be apart of. I am so thankful for the friendships I have made and the leadership skills I will carry forward. I will forever cherish the memories made as part of this club. As I’ve started a new chapter of my life away at college and am currently at cheer team practice at the University of St. Thomas, I apologize for not being there in person. Thank you again.

Cori Milam

Cori Milam is a 10 year member from the Covered Bridge 4-H Club. She held nearly every club office, served as a youth leader in the sheep and rabbit projects, and played an active role in county events like the Clover Café, the 4-H Haunt, and the American Spirit Trip. Cori was also crowned Miss Ozaukee County 4-H this past year, using her platform to expand awareness about the diversity of 4-H opportunities. Whether she’s organizing events, mentoring younger youth, or helping volunteer at various events, Cori leads with kindness, reliability, and heart.

Outside of 4-H, Cori just completed her 12th grade year at Cedarburg High School. While in high school, she was very involved with sports and the Best Buddies program. Cori will attend the University of Minnesota Twin Cities and study animal science on a pre-vet track.
Cori has shown growth and achievement as a youth in the Ozaukee County 4-H program and has done a fantastic job showcasing her passion for 4-H. Congratulations!

A message from Cori: If there’s one thing I can say about 4-H, it’s that it has provided me with countless opportunities to grow and face new challenges. Over the past 10 years as a member of the Covered Bridge 4-H Club, I’ve experienced so many meaningful moments. I’d like to highlight three of my favorites. The first is camp. Each summer, I eagerly looked forward to it. It was a time to make crafts, sing songs, and connect with others. It taught me the value of teamwork, the importance of building strong relationships, and how shared experiences can bring people together. These memories are some I will cherish for the rest of my life. The second memory is the American Spirit trip. This 10 day trip was something I never thought I would have the chance to do. Traveling throughout New England and Canada was truly unforgettable. It opened my eyes to diverse cultures, and the importance of leadership. This trip provided an opportunity for personal growth by challenging me to step outside my comfort zone, engage with new people, and experience activities I never imagined myself doing. Third, I had the honor of being elected Miss Ozaukee 2024. This experience challenged me in new and unexpected ways, requiring me to step into unfamiliar territory and adapt quickly. As a result, I experienced tremendous personal growth, specifically in my confidence and abilities as a public speaker. This journey would not have been possible without the support of many individuals that have made my past 10 years enjoyable. Although there have been many, I would like to take the time to recognize a few individuals who have shaped me into who I am today. First, Ms. Karolczek has always encouraged me to pursue my dreams. Her influence has been incredibly meaningful to me. Second, Mr. Boehlke has taught me the value of passion. His unwavering dedication over the past 50 years to helping others is something I deeply admire. Finally, my parents, my greatest supporters, they’ve taught me the importance of effort. Effort is the driving force behind learning, developing skills, and reaching goals because it pushes us to overcome challenges, stay persistent, and continuously improve. Thanks to the dedication of the people around, and the valuable memories I’ve made over the years. 4-H has played a key role in shaping who I am today. I’m forever grateful for the time I’ve spent in this organization, and I hope to one day give back to my community in the same way these individuals have inspired me.

A message from Katelyn: I am honored to be able to receive the Key award. This award is very special to me because I am able to reflect on what I have done and the memories I have shared with others in my career in Ozaukee County 4-H. From just playing Corn Hole during barn duty, remembering how scared I was to perform in the variety show for the first time in 3rd grade, choosing to run for Miss Ozaukee in 2022 & 2023, and getting my first reserve champion dairy beef steer, to just name a few. Looking back I would not want to have it any other way. Ozaukee County 4-H has shaped me into the person I am glad to be today.

I would first like to thank my mom. Without her I would have definitely missed a deadline for a project, meeting time, or almost anything that was in my busy schedule. She is the rock of our family and I cannot appreciate her enough. I know that she is going to miss me when I go to college in less than a month. She has taught me how to become a dedicated person to whatever I put my mind to. I would also like to thank my dad for getting me started in the livestock projects all of those years ago. I have found my true passion for raising and showing livestock.

Next I would like to thank all of the leaders that believed in me and my career in Ozaukee County 4-H. Deanna Lee and Jim & Teri Rychtik, thank you for being my shoulder to cry on, someone to talk to, someone to look up to, and even just being there for me and pushing me to keep going in the show ring with my animals. Debbie Poull and Brenda Mueller, thank you for welcoming me with open arms into your club this year. It has truly been a blessing being able to be an officer for Jay Road 4-H.

Third, I would like to thank my wonderful stock show family. Ricky, I can’t thank you enough. Your dedication to helping youth getting into showing lambs and of all of your knowledge about the industry has helped me win not one but 2 banners these past 2 summers, and I am truly thankful. Kaylee & Jorjie, thanks for putting up with me and becoming some of my best friends in 4-H. I can’t wait to see you shine in the show ring when I am done showing after next year. Our inside jokes and all of the times I tried to teach you the boot scootin’ boogie or cotton eyed joe in the barn at home, are memories that I will never forget. Weston, thank you for letting me show you the ropes of pig showing. I hope that you will continue your passion for pigs and showing.

Without my family, mentors, leaders, and my stock show family support along with the many others in 4-H, I would not be the person I am today, taking on my dreams as I move onto my next step in life. Thank you everyone for the push in building leadership skills, growth and confidence that you have given me throughout my 11 years in Ozaukee County 4-H. Without everyone I would not be able to have found my passion for agriculture education.

Thank you especially to my co-general leaders, Mrs. Boehlke and Mrs. Brzezinski, and to all my leaders who worked with me and helped me to become the person I am. I am also grateful to my parents who pushed me to do things I didn’t necessarily want to do, but I am happy that I was pushed to do them. I would encourage everyone who is not in the 4-H program to get involved. 4-H is such a wonderful program because it stretches you to do things that you would otherwise not take the opportunity to do. Outside of 4-H, Abigail just completed her 12th grade year at Grafton High School. She was a member of the National Honors Society, coached the middle school forensics team and was a 15 year member of the Lake Shore Dance Performance Company.
It is apparent that Abigail has grown tremendously as a youth in the Ozaukee County 4-H program and has done a wonderful job showcasing her love for 4-H.

A message from Abigail: 4-H has taken me to some incredible places. Although my 4-H trips to Washington D.C., Boston and New York City have been incredible, it occurred to me that there are places even cooler than that. For example, without 4-H, I would have never been to Camp Y-Koda to be a camp counselor, and make some of my favorite memories. Or, I would have never been an actor in a haunted house and discovered my love for Halloween and volunteering. Additionally, I would have never been able to spend almost every day this summer in a goat barn, training baby goats. Even when 4-H takes me to the vet the Thursday of fair, I am grateful 4-H has offered me so many opportunities; things that would have been impossible otherwise. Therefore, because I could not reach all of these places alone, the amount of people I have to thank is limitless. And so, even through I have claimed to have an immeasurable amount of thank-you’ s to say, I am going to attempt to name some of them now.

First, I want to thank every single member of the Haunt Committee – specifically Mrs. Deanna Lee. They are truly a family like no other. Their collective passion for scaring the heck out of people makes them an incredible team that works really hard to put on an amazing show. I have really enjoyed participating in the Haunt, from build to tear down. If I can find rides home from Madison in October, you better bet I will be there every weekend. Thank you for letting me be part of your demented family.

Next, I want to say thanks to all of my project leaders, club leaders, and past youth leaders that have take time to prepare and teach me anything and everything. It’s a really broad list of people and subjects that I have participated in over the years, but they are each building blocks to one 4-H’er, and without those blocks I would be up here today – so thank you.

Third, I would like to thank the 4-H Foundation and 4-H Leaders Association. They have played a key role, both financially and informationally, in my ability to make it to all of these places, and I appreciate all of the support along my 4-H career.

Perhaps one of the biggest thank-you’ s I have to give goes to my parents. When I asked if I could buy and raise a baby goat with absolutely no experience or resources, they were exceptionally supportive and excited for me. In fact, the word “supported” doesn’t even describe it, because they would go to the barn on the nights I couldn’t and work with my goat. They have always been encouraging of each of my 4-H adventures, even the crazy ones, and I truly owe them everything. They are both smart, strong, and ambitious individuals and if I end up anything like them, I think I will be okay.

It is evident that Jacob has been a dedicated youth in the Ozaukee County4-H program and has represented 4-H well.

A message from Jacob: I am honored to be selected to receive the 4-H Key Award this year. There have been many awards that I have received, but this one is very special because it represents everything I have done over the past 13 years of being in 4-H and the skills that I have learned along the way because of my 4-H experiences. However, receiving this award would not have been possible without the village that helped me become the man I am today. First and foremost, I want to thank my parents who provided me with so many opportunities to get involved with 4-H.

Thank you, mom and dad, for all of your love and support and going along with my crazy ideas. I, figuratively and literally, would not be here if it wasn’t for you two. To the Knellsville 4-H Club, the Ozaukee County 4-H leaders, the 4-H Foundation, and the 4-H Extension Office, thank you for all the programs and opportunities that you have put together for the 4-H youth in Ozaukee County. We might not say it enough, but thank you for all that you do for us. We might not realize it at the time, but we truly appreciate everything that you do. The events have always been so much fun and appreciated by everyone. Ozaukee County 4-H would not be what it is without the love that everyone puts in to make this a county of excellence.

I remember my parents having a discussion after we attended our first 4-H Open House when I was in kindergarten. My mom asked my dad if he was sure that non-farm kids could join 4-H, because her experience was that farm kids were in 4-H and my dad grew up on a farm and was in 4-H, so it must have been true. My mom must have been convinced because her we are 13 years later.

One of the best things about 4-H is how it grows with you and the skills that you learn and the friendships that you make are lifelong. Public speaking, leadership skills, and work ethic are just some skills I have learned because of 4-H and the activities that I have been involved in. These activities have not only helped me become a better leader in 4-H, especially as an older youth and as this year’s Mr. Ozaukee 4-H, but outside of 4-H as well as an Eagle Scout and being a 3-year captain of my high school wrestling team.

Through 4-H, I have made friends from not only Ozaukee County, but from throughout Wisconsin – thanks to the opportunities for travel, including trips to Winter Leadership Camp, Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama, and being an Activity Team Youth Ambassador at the State Fair. 4-H’ers become fast friends and make everything memorable. Who can forget the “Captain, Captain, Captain” skit my friend Ben Mitchell and I did at 4-H camp. Six years later, and people are still taking about the difference between an iceberg and an ice cube. But in all seriousness, 4-H has helped shape me into the young man that I am today. I am a 4-H’er and I am proud of it. 4-H will always be a key art of who I am. Whether it be the travel, the skills, the awards, and the people helped me become who I am and who I will be in the next stage of my life. This is not the end of the journey in 4-H, but only the beginning. These memories and experiences are merely the foundation to help me make the best better.

A message from Jennifer:

I can’t imagine not being in 4-H. I’ve been a part of 4-H for what feels like forever and it has been a wonderful journey. It has allowed me to grow and discover new ideas I thought wouldn’t be possible. I was able to make great friends with even fonder memories. 4-H has taught me what it means to be a responsible leader who can help others pave the way.

Of course, this wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for other leaders who helped paved the way for me. Leaders like my parents, who have taught me to always go above and beyond and to always help those who need it. Adult leaders, who have helped me gain knowledge and allowed me to grow as a person. Friends and family, who have been by my side and cheered me on even if it was a failure at first. So many people have helped me grow and make 4-H a fun place that everyone can enjoy.

With the experiences I have gained and the knowledge I have learned through 4-H, I hope I can continue to grow as an individual and help others learn and appreciate what it means to be a 4-H-er. As the motto says, let’s all hope we can make the best better.

I have been a member of the Jay Road 4-H club for 12 years. I’m so honored to have received this award. 4-H has been a huge part of my life and has helped me grow into the person that I am today. Through 4-H, I have learned some invaluable life skills I would have never learned anywhere else. Some of my favorite memories are those small spontaneous moments. Those moments that can never be captured again no matter how hard you try. A joke you shared with a friend, a funny story only you and one other person knows, or some sort of hardship you shared with someone that you now look back on with a smile. I would like to thank everyone who has helped me on my journey including my parents, the friends I have made through 4-H, and all of the adult leaders who have supported me in all that I have done.

A message from Emilee:

I would first like to start off by giving a huge thank you to my leader Dorothy Parchim. Dorothy has not only become my leader and my mentor, but has become one of my closest friends throughout my years in 4-H. She has been at my side, pushing me to take on new opportunities, supporting me and showing me how to build confidence and character in myself as a 4-Her.

Next I would like to thank my parents, Todd and DeAnn Thiede for always being my biggest supporters from a young age, driving me to all my events before I got my license, and always pushing me to take the next step, whether it be running for Miss Ozaukee 4-H, or sending in my college application to UW-River Falls.

When I was nine years old, and joined 4-H for the first time, I did not think I would be standing in front of a crowd, public speaking, about to receive one of the most honorable awards within Wisconsin 4-H. However, here I am, standing in front of you, and I can say that I made it.

Becoming a 4-H’er has not only proven to me what I am all capable of doing, but has proven to me the kindness in each member, excitement in trying new things, and the outcome of taking on opportunities as they come.

4-H will not only remain in my past, but in my future as I step forward, sharing my confidence, kindness and 4-H knowledge to everyone I meet. Having the chance to have shown dairy cows throughout my years, and eventually receiving the opportunity given by the Jaffke Family, to raise and show my own steers, I have truly found my passion in animal science and cattle behavior. With the many opportunities that I have been given throughout my years, including this one, I have followed my dreams to attend UW-River Falls, majoring in Companion Animal Science, and minoring in Large Animal Vet.

Without Dorothy, Paul Jaffke, the Paulus Farm and my parents support along with the many others in 4-H, I would not be the person I am today, taking on my dreams as I move onto my next step in life. Thank you everyone for the push in building leadership skills, growth and confidence that you have given me throughout my 9 years in Cloverleaf 4-H.

I have always enjoyed learning about many different topics, so I was a part of many different projects, but my favorites have been Clothing and Horticulture. I would also advise current and future 4-Hers to try out all of the projects that seem interesting to them, since it’s always good to try new things and learn about them, and a project can end up being an unexpected favorite. I would also advise everyone to attend as many events as possible, and to get a lot of volunteering experience. My international exchange was by far my favorite 4-H memory, and I can’t wait to return to Japan one day. For now, I am a student at Carthage College with a major in physics and minors in German and Computer Science. Anastasia Poull

Anastasia is a 12 year member of Jay Road 4-H Club. She started in Clover Buds in first grade. Anna stated she was a shy girl hiding behind her mother at that first meeting. She went on to say “I am thankfully no longer that shy little girl but a confident, independent, youth leader today”. Anna believes 4-H was a key to this success. She has enrolled in many projects over the years including Horse & Pony, Home Environment, Photography, Scrap Booking, Creative Writing, Youth Leadership, Art, Shotgun, Rifle, Archery, and more. A message from Anna:

4-H has given me a greater positive impact than I could have ever imagined. Before I was in 4-H, I remember walking through the barns at fair looking at every single animal. From the outside, it seemed that animals was what 4-H was all about. Since joining 4-H, I have participated in 4-H experiences around the country, participated in projects such as horse and pony, photography, and shooting sports, along with meeting some of the best people in my life. Without 4-H, my life would not be as rich or as colorful. I likely would not have joined the theater or forensics program at Port Washington High School or been able to grown my life skills.  Fair week would just be looking at animals and my life would be a lot less busy. Congratulations to the rest of the Key Award recipients for all your hard work through the many years and thank you to all of the youth and adults who have supported us to reaching this point.

Joshua Riemer

First, I would like to thank all the individuals who have helped me realize all the fun and exciting things that 4-H has to offer and have helped me take advantage of a lot of those opportunities. I would especially like to thank my parents and the rest of my family who have helped me achieve all that I have in the program and a big thank you to all of the different project leaders that have helped me over the last 13 years in the 4-H program. The years have flown by since my first meeting, which I can’t remember, to leading the meetings this year as President, I have done some serious growing up. Through being a lifelong Lindenwood Club member, I have had many opportunities and have met many lifelong friends, by going to the WI 4-H Youth Conference, traveling the east coast on American Spirit and attending CWF in Washington D.C. and many more. Through 4-H I have also grown in my public speaking, participating in Mr. Ozaukee, Variety Show, the Auctioneering project and giving a speech for the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction buyers dinner. Being a part of the sheep project has also helped me realize how much work it takes to succeed. It has also given me many lifelong friends and given me opportunities to travel and show in three different states. If it was not for 4-H I would not have had any of those opportunities and all of the lifelong friendships I have today. 4-H is a great organization and it is an honor to be recognized as the best of the best and without the help and encouragement of all of the great leaders I would not be the person I am today. Once again, thank you to all of my family members and the leaders who have made me the person I am today through 4-H and congratulations to the other recipients.
