Countywide Geocaching Project

What you can do in this project:

  • Learn the fundamentals of geocaching and equipment
  • Learn guidelines and rules of geocaching
  • Explore outdoors looking for geocaches
  • Build your own geocaches

Grades: 3-12

Location: Various Locations throughout Ozaukee County & local area beyond. Project leader will provide meeting locations.

2023-2024 Dates:

  • November 5, 2023, 1:00 pm., location TBA.
    • Go geocaching, plant a tracking bug
  • January 2, 2024, 6:30 pm., location TBA. (indoors)
    • Make swag and geocaching containers, Geocaching 101 education from Wisconsin Geocaching Association
  • February 17, 2024, 11:00 am., Cedarburg Public Library
    • Geocaching puzzles
  • March 3, 2024, 1:00 pm., location TBA.
    • Go geocaching at the sites we did the puzzles for at the previous meeting.
  • April 7, 2023, 1:00 pm., Tendick County Park in Saukville.
    • Cache In, Trash Out (CITO)
    • Washington County 4-H Geocaching youth will be invited to participate. Ozaukee County 4-H members to teach them about geocaching while doing an earth-day theme park clean-up project.
  • May 18, 2024, 10:00-Noon, Harrington Beach at Harrington State Park, Belgium – Meet at Puckett’s Pond at 10:00am
    • WGA picnic and geocaching. We’ll geocache as a group until 12 Noon and then decide if you decide to stay for lunch & more activities on your own. You will be welcome to do so as a family. Geocache code with more info is GCAKZBK
  • June 2, 2024, 11:00-12:30 pm., Downtown Port Washington Puzzle Cache – Meet in front of Harborview Hotel.
    • There is a puzzle cache along Franklin St. where we have to look at close-up pictures of buildings and then find those buildings and use numbers from their addresses to get the actual coordinates of the cache. Geocache code is GC8Y9EW for more info.
  • July 9, 2024, 6:00-7:00 pm., Interurban Trail Power Trail – Meet at IAT crosses Lake Drive, east of Hwy. KW and west of Highland Drive.
    • There is a line of 17 caches along the Interurban Trail between Port Washington and Fredonia. Not sure of best place for parking, but from satellite maps, it looks like there may be a couple of business parking lots very close to where we are meeting.
    • Bring a bike for this experience, and make sure you bring/wear bug spray.
    • Some of the geocache codes are GCFFBX, GC4FFDV, GC4FFE2, GC4FFEC, and GC4MPEW.

Record Books: Project youth should send photo of record book pages to project leader, Jessica, after county fair, and she will make comments and email back to youth. Youth can then print and put pages into record book before turning in to your general leader.
