Ozaukee County 4-H Youth Led Camp

Ozaukee County 4-H youth took the lead this summer as they helped shape and carry out the 2026 4-H Summer Camp experience, held June 18–21. Through both Base Camp and Adventure Camp tracks, young people stepped into leadership roles while creating a welcoming, supportive environment where campers could learn, grow, and connect.

Over four days, youth experienced more than a traditional overnight camp. They built friendships, tried new activities, and learned what it means to live and work together in a community setting. From outdoor skills and team-building challenges to camp traditions and shared responsibilities, each part of camp supported confidence and independence.

Youth leadership was central to the experience. Base Camp included 25 campers supported by 14 youth counselors and 9 adult volunteers, while Adventure Camp engaged 15 youth with support from 1 youth counselor and 2 adults. Youth counselors served as mentors and role models, guiding younger campers, leading activities, and helping create a space where everyone felt included.

The Adventure Camp track offered additional opportunities for leadership development, advanced outdoor skills, and group problem-solving. Youth were encouraged to try new challenges, step outside their comfort zones, and reflect on their experiences.

Campers grew in visible and meaningful ways. Youth built confidence, formed new friendships, and became more comfortable trying unfamiliar activities. Youth counselors strengthened leadership and communication skills as they supported younger participants and worked together as a team.

At its core, Ozaukee County’s 4-H Youth Led Camp is about creating a sense of belonging, building life skills, and empowering young people to take an active role in their growth and in supporting others. These experiences help prepare youth to be confident, capable, and connected members of their communities.
